I’ve been researching my family history, and I’m amazed at what I’ve been able to uncover! So amazed, I’m writing my first novel and I’ll be blogging about the experience.
I only had the names of my great-grandparents on my mother’s side, and really didn’t have any expectations of going back any further. After my mother’s family left Hungary, I was told her village destroyed their records. Fortunately, the Catholic church has a vast collection.
But the best discoveries were uncovered when I went through her pictures again, boxes and boxes of items saved and stored safely at my brother’s. After eight years, it was a joy to go through, and I found some documents that I’d never seen before. How amazed I was when I translated them.
I thought I knew all there was to know about her village leaving Hungary, but every time I answer one question, I uncover two more.
I hope you’ll follow me as I share my experience.
