I’m preparing for my first NaNoWriMo project: 50,000 words in thirty days. I organized my desk and my work space, position it front of the picture window in the living room. I enjoy looking out as the neighbors sit on their porches and chit chat over a cup of coffee and a smoke.
Some writing experts advise against placing the desk in an area full of distractions. I look at cubicle walls all day long, my reward at the end of the day is my window. “Turn off the distracting tv and replace the background noise with music” my inner voice says.
I’m working on my outline, which is not as easy as I thought. Several questions I have, include the struggle over the name of my main character. My novel is inspired by true events, and the ideas flow easier with fictional names but still create conflict in my mind.
It’s dark outside now, so I close the curtains and end this day. It feels good to write again.
